I’m from FL and travel to Orlando frequently. I have done both, staying on & off property. If money is an issue, I would stay on property. I have stayed at Pop Century. If you are planning on staying on property, you can take the resort’s free shuttles to the different parks. Otherwise, you’ll have to pay for parking while you are there. Also, if you buy the souvenir pictures at the parks, they’ll send them to the resort instead of you having to carry it around the park or wait in line at the end of the day.

The cheapest place to stay with a family is by renting a time share that is right by Disney. Go to or or and rent a timeshare from an owner cheap. You can also advertise on timeshareowners for free that you are looking for a place. You can get a two bedroom time share with a sleeper sofa in the living room for about the price of one crowded hotel room and you will have a kitchen so you can save money on food. There are usually families staying at these places at a variety of ages. We stayed at one in Hawaii and there were kids all my kids ages and I have a big span of ages. Also, the younger kids can be napping in a bedroom while everyone else socializes in the living room.

The cheapest way would be to stay in a villa close to Disney like this and book flights separately – there are lots of flight sales on at the moment like Virgin Atlantic. Although there are some offers for buy 4 nights get 3 free, etc at Disney hotels at the moment… See here

If your teenagers are old enough to be on their own staying on Disney property would allow them to take shuttles to a water park if you wanted to spend the day shopping at Downtown Disney. But the value resort rooms are small, really good for a family with small children. We’ve had great luck renting timeshares via redweek.com and other sites. It’s not very hard to get a nice place with two bedrooms for under $1000. Check the reviews carefully. Tickets are going to be your biggest expense. We’ve done well by staying off property and buying a 3-4 day theme park ticket with water parks, which gets you 6-7 days at Disney parks. The water parks are a nice break between theme park visits.

trust me. you wanna stay at a disney hotel. you get free transportation to any of the parks plus downtown disney. you also get something called Extra Magic Hours. every night one of the four parks will stay open up to three hours extra for disney resorts guests only. that means all the people not staying at the disney resorts leave. you have to show a room key to get on rides during this time. also dont forget disney now has a meal plan you could buy if your staying at one of the resorts. its for one sit down, one quick service and one snack a day for each member of your party. its worth it. plus i mean do you really want to stay off disney and have to rent a car. that could cost alot and probably even out in the end. i stayed at Pop Century, one of the lower tier hotels and i have to say it was awesome. thats the best of the cheaper ones, ive also stayed at the caribbean resort which is mid level and it was nice also. i just liked pop century better. i went during christmas vacation which is peak season and the most expensive and i think pop century was 85 a night when we got there and went to 115 a night a few days before christmas. well good luck and have fun.

My husband and I stayed at pop century resort in July and loved it. I would recommend staying in a resort inside disney world because you get extra magic hour benefits, free parking and a lot of other extras. Good luck!

You should stay outside the Disney resorts because they are way overpriced. I would recommend checking out the website BookMe dot com. You can compare ALL the reputable travel ticket sites, and save money. Good luck!

The Caribbean Beach resort. There are more things to “do” at the moderate vs value resorts. The rooms (and beds) are bigger, you have a fridge, etc. The benefits you get from staying on Disney property definately make it worth it over a non-associated hotel.
